Late to School

Ring! Ring! The alarm went off. It was morning. Jared woke up and looked at his clock. It said 7:30. He felt sleepy and tired. He was not ready to get up, so he turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. His bed felt soft, comfortable and warm.

A few minutes later, his mom shouted, " Come on! You can not stay in bed now, Jared."

Jared replied with tiredness in his voice, "Do I have to get up now?”

Yes, you do need to get up, so get up!” commanded his mom.

Okay, okay, I am getting out of bed,” called Jared.

And don't forget to take a shower,” added his mom.

Jared slowly rolled over in bed and stretched. He got up. And with his eyes barely open, he reached for his towel. When he got his towel, he started to the shower. He walked slowly and finally made it to the shower. He pulled back the shower curtain and stepped in. Jared turned on the water with a flick of his wrist. He felt the coolness down his back, followed with the wet warm water. He washed and enjoyed the smell of cinnamon soap. He has just washed his hair, when he heard his mother's voice.

“Jared, are you almost done with your shower yet?” said his mom

     “What, mom?,” said Jared.

“Jared, are you almost done with your shower yet?,” she said again.

“Okay” said Jared. He turned off the water with gentle turn of the nob and dried off his body. When he got to his room, he got dressed. He put on his camo boxers. Next he put on a red and orange-striped sweatshirt. Then he put on his faded blue jeans with a hole in the knee. Last he put on fluffy warm socks. Next was his chores.

When Jared tried to feed the dogs, they kept jumping and fighting over the food. He almost got knocked over . They were two very stinky dogs, but very good guard dogs. When he tried to feed his cat, there were no food left for the cat.

“Mom, we are out of cat food,” said Jared through the open doorway.

“Remind me to put that on the shopping list, Jared darling,” said his mother.

The next chore was feeding the fish. When he dropped the flakes in the water, the fish started eating. It sort of looked like a feeding frenzy.

Jared smelled eggs and toast, and got very excited. His stomach growled. His mom called him to breakfast. On his plate were two scrambled egg and toast.

“ Thanks, Mom.”  The first bite of bread crunched in his mouth. He finished his breakfast and went back to the bathroom. He put toothpaste on his toothbrush and brushed his teeth.

"We need to go, now!"said his mom.

"Bye, Dad, see you after school."  shouted Jared as he ran out the door. Then they ran to the car and drove up Broke Hill.  They drove like a cheetah down that road.

"We are probably going to make it one minute late," warned his mother.

"Okay, I am ready to jump out,"  said Jared.

They got to the school and parked.  Jared raced to class.  Right as the teacher grabbed the bell,  Jared slipped right into the teacher.  Then he apologized and went to class.

  1. Jonathan, I like the story. It is very real. I can picture what it would be like when Jared gets up.

I had to highlight the story to read it though. Do you have trouble reading it in the dark text?
